Rima Theisen's appearance was not like the flight attendants in general. Without hair, she confidently serves passengers while traveling on the plane.
The style of Rima Theisen as a flight attendant on Virgin Atlantic was indeed eccentric. He wore a red suit which was the iconic uniform of the airline where she worked and dressed thickly like her fellow flight attendants.
It's just that this 37-year-old woman appeared with a bald head. Baldness is the last thing she wants as a flight attendant. However, the conditions forced her to do so.
Rima Theisen experienced a condition called alopecia universalis. Extreme baldness conditions that make it not have hair on the head, arms, or genital organs.
Instead of wearing a wig to cover her condition, Rima chose to appear as she is with a bald head. The goal is to encourage people with different body conditions to remain confident and optimistic about living.
Not once did Rima get a surprised look from the passengers? Not a few also think she has cancer. However, the judgment and gaze of people she responds casually.
"People ask me if I am chemotherapy or sick and I only answer if I live with this condition and many people have never heard of it. They are curious and ask many questions, but it doesn't matter to me," Rima said, as quoted from Metro.co.uk.
Rima's condition with alopecia universalis is indeed rare. Only one in 4,000 people live with this condition.
"Because I'm pretty confident and don't feel disturbed, people think maybe this is just my choice in style. Even though I didn't vote for this," said Rima.
Rima began experiencing severe hair loss in April last year. Exactly six months after giving birth to her daughter. Initially, she considered the condition typical because she experienced the same thing when giving birth to her first son.
His hair continued to fall out and did not stop until finally Rima consulted a doctor and was only diagnosed as having stress, and her condition would improve when she was calmer mentally. A month later her hair still falls out so she can't be covered again. The decision was taken. He chose to shave off her hair.
Rima came to many doctors because she was worried that she might have lupus or other autoimmune diseases. However, after going to a dermatologist, it was discovered that she had alopecia universalis. When her maternity leave is almost gone, Rima's hair is no longer growing. He also must work with bald hair.
"At that point, my eyelashes and eyebrows disappeared, as did hair on my arms, legs and pubic hair," said Rima.
When she took steroids to overcome her condition, Rima finally gave up. He also tried to be confident and proud of being a bald flight attendant. He still dressed up, wearing fake eyelashes and red lipstick. Appearing without hair does not make her embarrassed and still professionally works as a flight attendant. Rima also advised that women's beauty is not only judged by how long or thick the hair is.
"Know that you are still the same person with or without hair," she concluded.
