Science fiction paints robots as high-tech futuristic creations. Robots for us have a very modern class, but not with robots created in ancient times. Even though it has very limited mobility, the robots in the past still had a fairly good function, even in ancient times technology became an inspiration for robot developers in the modern era like today.

Like these robots, bro, even though they don't look as modern as robots today, these robots have functions that are quite interesting.

Da Vinci Lion's

According to the story, Leonardo da Vinci created the Robot Lion to be given to King Francois I by the Florentine community in the city of Lyon in France in 1515, to celebrate the new alliance between Florence and France.

The mechanical lion, with one touch, can automatically walk ten steps, then shake its head, open its mouth and wag its tail up and down.

Karakuri Ningyo

In the 17th century, Karakuri Ningyo was described as a mechanical puppet with limited mobility. This mechanical doll is usually designed for entertainment which is only able to create small movements.

But there are three types of karakuri ningyo:
1. Karakuri Butai - This doll is commonly used in a theater performance.
2. Karakuri Zashiki - This doll is used as a toy or display at home.
3. Karakuri Dashi - which is often used for performances on religious festivals.

The best known Karakuri is "zashiki", (tea-serving robot). how this mechanical doll works like this:

When a plate with a cup of tea is placed in the hands of the zashiki. And the weight of the teacup will make the robot wheel rotate and move straight forward. The foot that is attached to the side or below it will move like it is walking.

After the robot is very close to the destination and the tea cup is lifted, the robot will stop and bow its head then shut up. Then when an empty cup is returned to his hand, the robot will spin its body 180 degrees to turn around, raise its head then go to where it originally was.

Jaquet Droz - Automata

Jaquet-Droz's family created many Automata Dolls in France during the 1700s, but these three Automata Dolls were originally created to advertise and increase sales of a watch product.

The three Automata Dolls built between 1768 and 1774 have different functions. "The Musician" is an Automata doll for women who can play the piano. His hands and fingers can move to play music.

"The Draftsman" is an Automata doll that can draw, the image is a scratch like the picture in children. This automata is actually programmed to draw four different types of images. Other functions This doll can shift from its chair and will sometimes blow the tip of the pencil it is holding.

"The Writer" is a more complex version of the previous machine, this doll can write letters. What is written can be customized as long as it is only forty characters. The doll also sometimes dips the pen into ink, shakes his wrist and his eyes will slowly follow what he writes on the page.

These three Automata Dolls are still functioning today and are currently on display at the Museum d'Art et d'Histoire.
Tipu's Tiger

According to the story, this mechanical toy was created in the eighteenth century as a gift for "Sultan Tipu", ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore India, in 1799. The shape depicts a tiger who was pouncing on a European soldier. The casing is made of wood and painted like a tiger skin.

One of the hands of the male doll can move as if it were struggling as if it was trying to defend itself against the tigers. Sometimes, the man's puppet makes a sound like a scream of pain and the tiger doll will growl. Sultan Tipu really liked the robot so that the tiger became his personal symbol and he often played it wherever he was.

The tiger doll also raised his eyebrows sometimes, the designer inserted a small organ (Musical Instrument Organ) containing eighteen tones on the tiger doll, so that users could play different tones. Unfortunately, the organ has been reworked several times since being taken to London and no longer in its original form.
